Summer Highlighters

We have talked about Summer Eye Looks, and a few Summer Lip Glosses, but today let's talk about one of my favorite makeup products: highlighters. I have numerous highlighters; some are powder either pressed or loose, cream, or in stick/pen form. During the summer I'm more inclined to use cream form highlighters, I think summer skin is supposed to look dewy, and glowy, in my opinion cream highlighters work best for that affect. I still use my powder products but I notice I grab more for the creams.

NARS Illuminator in Copacabana
This was in my April/May Favorites post. I love this product, it is easy to use, and a little goes a long way, I think this tube will last forever. At first I thought with all the hype surrounding this product that I might be disappointed, but absolutely not. I love this highlighter and it is usually the first one I grab for. I squeeze a little product onto the back of my hand and with a MAC 109 brush I buff a little Copacabana onto my skin.

Le Metier de Beaute Marchesa Sheer Illumination Highlighter
For a long time I used YSL Touche Eclat, I didn't love it and I don't know why I continued to use it for so long. So when I purchased the LMDB pen I didn't rush to use it. I recently started using it and really enjoy it. I love that being in pen form makes this highlighter uber easy and convenient to use. A few swipes a few dabs, and you're ready to go. It also is great for on-the-go days where you need to slip a few extra products into your makeup bag.

Dior Lace Face Highlighting Powder
I purchased this last year, I didn't want to use it for the longest time. In the pan it's a pretty iridescent light pink color. The powder is finely milled and feels very smooth on the face. I still don't like to over use this highlighter because it's so pretty but it has become one of my favorites.

MAC Chez Chez Lame
I love this subtle champagne colored highlighter. It does not contain thick chunks of glitter just a nice amount of shimmer it's also very smooth. This highlighter will look good over a matte blush or just on it's own.

MAC Soft and Gentle Mineralize Skinfinish
Oh, Soft and Gentle what a tangled web we weave. Soft and Gentle and I have a love/hate relationship. I will use this product every day for a week, I love it, it's the greatest thing ever. Then the next week, I hate it and can't figure out why I continue to use it. This has been going on for 2 years. What I like: the golden color, the product itself is smooth, it's pigmented and you don't need a lot, I have had this in my collection for over 2 years, I think. What I don't like: contains a little too much glitter/shimmer, gives more of a sheen than a glow, a little lasts a long time I don't think I will ever make a dent in it!

Laneige Shimmering Multi Cream
This is another product I have had in my collection for quite some time. A little goes a long way, and this product is very user friendly. It can be used in so many different ways. You can add a little to your moisturizer or foundation for a pretty glow. You can wear it under or over your foundation in certain areas to highlighter. You can even wear it alone. Laneige is not that hard to find, it can be purchased online at numerous online retailers or can be purchased at The Amore store. If you're in California look out for them, I've driven past at least 6 all over the area.

MAC Vanilla Pigment
Another multi-purpose product. Vanilla pigment can be used in different ways, you can use it as a highlighter: just apply with a brush on your brow bone, inner eye area, down your nose, and a little on your cheeks. Or mix a little into your foundation, or moisturizer for an all over glow. This is another product where a little goes a long way. MAC Vanilla pigment has been a staple in my collection for a very long time.

From Left to Right: LMDB, Laneige, NARS, MAC Vanilla, MAC Chez Chez Lame, MAC Soft & Gentle, Dior

Great choices. I find that a bit of highlighter in the summer can take away the dullness of sun-exposed skin.

Beautiful post! I've become a tad addicted to highlighters lately. Originally I was just on the hunt to find the perfect "one". Now I can't stop!

Loved reading this, all these look gorgeous on you! :)
I absolutely LOVE the Edward Bess highlighters, especially Sunlight, although Afterglow is great too. Do you use them?
I also really like Chanel's iluuminator in Sunkissed for the most gorgeous warm glow evah!!! Recently I've fallen in love with Chantecaille's Lumiere de Rose highlighter as well. Among the MAC MSF's my favorite is Redhead, which I think may be similar to Dior Amber Diamond, I guess-- I don't have Amber Diamond which gets so many raves..
There is one drugstore highlighter that I find is really good quality: Prestige skin loving minerals, baked powder in Pure Shimmer-- it is just that, but not chunky at all and you need very little.

Ohhh the NARS one looks amazing. I have a deluxe sample of the illuminator in Orgasm, and didn't care for it. It blended into my skin too much. Maybe this shade is a better choice for me. Nice post!

NARS Illuminators rock! I think they're so much better compared to the original multiples. Thanks for the swatches. I'm digging the Laneige highlighter as well.

Love this! Glad I am not the only one who is lukewarm on touche eclat. There are some great alternatives here. The Dior Lace Face Highlighting Powder looks amazing.

I have touch eclat as well and this is my second tube of it and I still never use it! I like Dior Amber Diamond, and I have been loving my guerlain terra inca star powder this summer. I have some creams though I am going to give them a go after reading your post. What brush do you use to apply it?

What a drool worthy post. You have piqued my interest with the LMDB one. When Kayla did my makeup the tester had run out so I never got to see the effects of it. I love the way it looks swatched on your arm. Terrific post!

@Jamilla, you would think skin would be less dull during the summer, but mine looks better in the winter and dull in the summer so you're right, highlighters help a lot for me.

@swirruska, double love!

@Perilously Pale, You can't have just one. =) lol

@Lakshmi, stop stop stop!! Now I'm going to be trying to hunt down the Chantecaille highlighter! LOL just looked it up online, it is so pretty and their website still has it.. I see an online order in my future. You and BTIB have me loving Chantecaille. I have seen the EB highlighter on Sabrina's page but it's so small isn't it? I missed out on the that MAC collection where they had those MSF's- Red, Blonde, etc. I have seen photos and wish I would have purchased one at the time.

@Krystal, I also have the same Orgasm sample but have never gotten around to using it. But I can say Copacabana is a homerun all the way.

@Kristie, I hated the multiples, I'm so glad they came out with these also.

@BelleBelle, Yeah touche eclat in my book is just meh, especially with so many amazing HL on the market.

@Productdoctor, I went through a few tubes of it before I realized I didn't love it. I have issues. I just received the Guerlain Terra Inca powder, I'm excited to try it. With cream highlighters I either use a foundation brush or my MAC 109 you can really buff it into your skin with the 103 if you apply too much.

@Hopelessly Devoted, I like the LMDB one way more than the YSL one. I suggest giving it a try.

@Kasia, thanks!

The Copacabana illuminator looks gorgeous! I had the original Orgasm one but I didn't really like it on me...it was too subtle. I also love MAC Vanilla Pigment!
