Sigma 'Make Me Cool' Brush Set

P1090784

I know what you're thinking: Yet another Sigma Brush review?

That's right folks this is yet another Sigma Brush review. These brushes have seen more action than 'Enter Vulgar Term Here', however, that is not going to stop me from putting in my two cents or shall we say $99.00 because that's how much they cost. Yes, dear Orange2LA readers I had to purchase my own Sigma 'Make Me Cool' brush set because I am in fact not cool and do not get sent products by Sigma. Hey I'm not knocking those who do, I think it's great and a few people I respect have received and reviewed products from Sigma which is why I ordered these aqua sticks of fun. Right now I have a lot of brushes, probably more than the average woman needs but some of them are very old, some are MAC brushes I bought back in 2000, it's time to think about replacements.

On to the review!

Sigma currently has a new collection of brushes called "The Make Me Up Collection". The collection consist of 4 sets of brushes that retail at $99 USD, you can choose from:
  • Make Me Blush -Pink/Coral
  • Make Me Classy -Black
  • Make Me Cool - Aqua
  • Make Me Crazy - Purple
Each set comes with 12 brushes inside of a container. When I received the brush kit each face brush was covered with a plastic guard and each eye brush was inside a plastic film type sleeve. I went through each brush to see how each felt and to see if any brushes had loose hair. After investigating each brush I washed them and let them dry until the next day. The next day I tested each brush as well as used them for the entire week. Here is my overall impression of each brush. One of the things I'm not going to do is compare these brushes to MAC brushes. The reason I am not going to do that is because not all the brushes I own are MAC and not everyone who will read this will own MAC brushes.

P1090815*Small Angle - E65
This is one of my favorite brushes out of this set. I normally wear liquid eyeliner because I like how thin you can make your liner with a felt tip, so I was surprised how well I did with this brush and gel liner. This brush is soft yet firm and I was able to get very close to my lash line and create both a very thin line and thick line of gel liner.

P1090812Medium Angled Shading - E70
This is not a brush I would probably ever use. It's not just Sigma I have tried this type of brush from other brands and don't see a real purpose for the way I apply my makeup. Sigma says that a person would use it to apply a highlight color to the eyebrow bone. Well, I don't really think you need a separate brush to do that, I use what ever flat shader brush I was using for the rest of my makeup to apply my highlight color. Is the brush any good? Yes it is, it's soft and picks up a lot of color, if you don't have a brush collection already than this is an addition I can see that might be needed, If you already have a few brushes, this is not a necessity.

P1090817Large Shader - E60
Flat shape is ideal for application of cream formulas and eye shadow primers. It also works great with loose eye shadows or pigments. Can be used to apply color all over the lid or precisely on the lash line. Natural bristles. Source: Sigma Website
I didn't use this brush so I'm including the info from the Sigma website. I didn't use this brush because I use my fingers to apply cream eyeshadow and eye primers. As for the suggestion about using this brush for loose shadows and pigments well, I'm a total klutz when it comes to loose shadows so I try to stay away from them.

P1090814*Pencil - E30
I love this brush, I don't normally use pencil brushes because they are usually too dense and actually hurt if I use them anywhere under my eyes. But this brush is very soft, and not as dense as other brushes, the brush itself is also more tapered and pointy than other stubby brushes. I was able to apply shadow to the bottom of my eyes as well as smudged my eyeliner using this brush without making my eyes water like usual.

P1090833*Large Angled Contour - F40
This brush is soft yet dense. The angle makes it perfect for contouring and would be good with bronzer or blush. I use this type of brush a lot and think they are a must have in any girls brush collection.

P1090831Large Powder - F30
I use loose powders a lot and I have been wanting a large powder brush for awhile. I have a large powder brush now but it's not very soft and I don't like the way it works with my powders. This brush is a little too dense for me, the powders I use are finely milled and this brush picks up a little too much powder. I would rather be able to get a small amount powder and work on adding more powder little by little if needed so that I don't look cakey. But if you use powders in a pan this brush will work perfect.

P1090832Duo Fibre - F50
I love this brush for applying blushes and highlighter powders. It's very soft and you can really work this brush to get the perfect amount of product on your face. Now, I don't use this brush for foundation which I know a lot of girls do so I'm sorry if you want to know how this works with foundation, I just don't know.

P1090830*Foundation - F60
This is a great foundation brush. I normally don't use this type of foundation brush but I decided to test it out anyways. I was pleasantly surprised with the soft bristles. I liked it even more when I used it to apply my concealer, I was able to pack and pat my concealer and foundation into my skin so nicely with this brush.

P1090824Concealer - F70
I don't know if it's just my brush but this brush really sucked. First when I got it, a lot of the bristles were coming out. After I washed it even more came out, and once it dried.. well more came out. I still tried to use it with 25% of the bristles missing. It just didn't do anything. I tried it with my thick MUFE Full Cover concealer and it couldn't even move the product let alone pat it into my skin. Then, I used it with my lighter Fit Me Concealer and the same thing happened. I ended up using the foundation brush to finish applying my concealer. This brush was a total fail.

P1090818Tapered Blending - E40
Rounded and tapered top. Specially designed to apply and blend color on the crease. Natural bristles. Source: Sigma Website
This is normally my favorite type of brush, but this brush is too big and doesn't fit into my crease. I have large eyes but this brush is still too large. I don't really get it. I've tried using it a few times but it just doesn't work I couldn't work it correctly into my crease.

P1090807*Eye Shading - E55
Love this brush! I use this one everyday, it packs on color and is very soft. It's great for an all over color. This is the best brush in the set, every girl needs a brush like this.

P1090822Eyeliner - E05
This is also a good brush, I used it the way I would use a liquid liner tip. But this brush is a little large, I think it should be shorter and thinner, it was a little hard for me to create a thin line.

Overall I think this is a good set if you are new to brushes or only have a few and really need a complete set. With any set you are going to have brushes you like and brushes you don't. I have more positive things to say about this kit than negative. I definitely love the aqua color and the way it looks on my dresser.

Aw don't be sad.. Many people don't get sponsored by Sigma -___-" (including me.. but they prolly never will sponsor me because I live so freaking far away, lol).. However, it totally sucked that the hairs came out of that one concealer-ish brush.. O_Ô I did notice how the hairs were sticking out on the first photo..

I loved your intro to this post. I have a Sigma brush review coming up, and it's probably more disappointing than yours!

The casing is cute! Such a shame the concealer shed like crazy. Don't be sad I don't get sponsored either... hehe~

How long have you been using the Kirkland Wipes? Do you use it every night? Do you cleanse with a cleanser too?

@나니, haha I'm not sad just wanted everyone to know it was an honest review and that it wasnt a sponsored post. =P Yeah I took the picture of the concealer brush right away so everyone could see how it came.

@faye lu review, I actually got a single synthetic face brush from Sigma as well and really liked it. I think with them you have to buy the individual ones so get what you really want and like.

@K, Oh wow, no luck with Sigma either?

@Ahleessa, I have been using the Kirkland wipes for maybe 3 years now? I use them everynight but I still yse a cleanser afterwards, I don't know why I think it's just habbit.

Glad to know it's not only me who cleanse after using the wipes... hehe~ I thought I was crazy doing that.

Your husband is so sweet to have the wipes in every room! :)

What camera do you use? Your pictures are amazing! They look so professional. Teach me my master... hehe~ :)

Soooo nice! The color looks great. The funny thing is...I know a lot of people have blogged/vlogged about Sigma...but I actuallly don't read much about their brushes, haha, I think I've read like 2 or 3 posts, so your post is still appreciated by me. =P

@Ahleessa, I'll have to email you all my "trade secrets" hahahaha.

Great review. I'm so glad I found a non-sponsored Sigma post. I actually appreciate your review a lot more than sponsored reviews because you spent your hard earned money, so you're not going to write positive fluff for the company! Obviously I feel strongly that sponsored reviews are biased because those bloggers/"gurus" get their products for free, so kudos to you & your unbiased review! I'm sorry to hear that the concealer brush turned out to be a fail.. I've been considering in purchasing the black set for awhile, but wanted an in-depth review that isn't biased/sponsored, so yours helped me out a bit. My only concern is all the brushes that I don't think I'd need, like the foundation one (I strictly use my beautyblender sponge to apply liquid foundation & concealer), so I'm not sure if it's worth $99 + tax & shipping, you know?
