How To Wear Dark or Bold Lipstick

The pale nude lip movement is gone, sorry Eva Longoria. Bold lips are back and have become very popular. Everywhere you turn makeup brands are releasing beautiful bold lip colors that are right up my makeup filled alley. I know that bright and or bold lip colors are dramatic and can be scary or intimidating, but remember: anyone can pull off this look just keep in mind a few of these tips and you'll be apart of this great beauty trend.

Find the right color for your skin tone.
Do you have fair, olive, or dark skin? Take into consideration your complexion and undertone this will help you find your best color after all the skin is the backdrop for your lips. My favorite color right now is Rouge d'Armani in #604, it looks dark in the tube but looks different on my lips.

Exfoliate!
If you're like me, well then I feel sorry for you because your lips are dry as all hell sometimes. They flake and beg for lip balm. Every morning I exfoliate my lips to get rid of all the flaky areas. You can do something as simple as use a wash rag to lightly exfoliate your lips, I've heard some girls use their toothbrushes: To each her own I guess. But I use an actual lip scrub, there are some great DIY ideas out there just search "DIY lip scrub" on Google and I'm sure you will find something. I recently discovered Sara Happ The Lip Scrub, it's a little pricey but it has become my favorite morning product.

Conceal lips if needed.
Some girls have a natural dark or deep color to their lips, if you're one of these girls try adding a little concealer to your lips to bring out your lipsticks true color.

Line your lips.
When wearing bold colors liner is a must. Liner your lips first to stop any bleeding.

Most importantly: Focus on your lips.
If you are rocking the bold lips focus on that, go light on your blush and eyes, you don't want to look like a clown. Try a brown eyeliner instead of black, or just skip eyeliner all together and wear mascara only.

I actually love bold lipsticks with bold eyes, but if you are just getting into bold lips then neutral eyes are a safe bet.

I wish I can pull off dark lippies like you do. You look sophisticated on the picture. :)

I'm playing it safe with my pink lippies.

@Minakichu, I totally get stuck in the pink lipstick phase but lately I've been trying to break free. But I still love my pinks! =)

@Dina, I know it's hard but it's fun to try something different, what's the worst that could happen?

@Cosmetics Aficionado, Girl I love to rock the bold eyes and bold lips look. I think makeup should be fun and when I go out I don't hold back. But for everyday looks like to work or school I think bold lips are acceptable if the eyes are toned down.

@Pammy Thank you. Pinks are always fun. =)
